The sun sets over the Portuguese landscape, casting long shadows across the vibrant grounds of Boom Festival, one of the most revered gatherings in the global psychedelic trance community. In 2023, this iconic event hosted a particularly memorable performance from a true titan of the genre, Astrix. This recording captures his epic three-hour journey, a rare extended set that took the audience on an unforgettable sonic adventure.
For Avi Shmailov, the artist known as Astrix, this performance was more than just another festival set; he described it as a 'stronger and deeper experience' than his previous appearances at Boom. Stepping away from his usual format, the three-hour duration allowed him to craft a true 'tribal journey,' weaving a complex narrative of hypnotic rhythms, soaring melodies, and powerful basslines. The energy is palpable, reflecting the deep connection between the artist and the thousands of 'Boomers' who gathered to share in the moment, their collective positive vibes fueling the marathon performance.
A leading figure in psytrance for well over a decade, Astrix is celebrated for his meticulous studio productions and his explosive, high-energy live shows. His music has graced the stages of the world's biggest festivals, from Tomorrowland to Burning Man. This set at Boom Festival 2023 is a perfect showcase of his mastery, blending classic anthems with fresh material in a seamless, emotionally charged flow that demonstrates why he remains at the forefront of the scene.
