Audioslave — Live Concert at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Montreux, Switzerland, 2005

Audioslave, the supergroup pieced together in 2001 from bits of Rage Against the Machine and Soundgarden, blends hard rock and alternative with a force that hits you deep. Their gig on July 5, 2005, at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Montreux, Switzerland, was all about how they own a crowd. Chris Cornell sang with such fire, his voice flipping from fierce to melancholic, like it was the heart of the show. Tom Morello’s guitars built riffs that sounded like a storm, while Brad Wilk’s bass and Tim Commerford’s drums laid down a rhythm that slammed into your chest. The hall’s acoustics made the sound crystal clear, and the lights, shifting from red to blue, played up the mood swings. The crowd, like they were under a spell, swayed and shouted, totally caught up in the rock vibe.
