Black Coffee — Live DJ Performance at The Lab, Miami, Florida, USA, 2017

In March 2017, at the peak of Miami Music Week—an annual electronic music event launched in 1985 as Winter Music Conference emphasizing house and techno—South African producer Black Coffee (Nkosinathi Innocent Sizwe Maphumulo), whose album Piece of Me (2015) earned a Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Album, performed at The Lab, Mixmag's series of intimate DJ sets in studio settings. His hour-long showcase, rich with deep bass lines and African percussive motifs sampling "&lez - Manole," embodied his global tour climax, where house rhythms intertwined with jazz hues to ignite euphoria for a small crowd. As part of Smirnoff Sound Collective, this show highlighted Black Coffee's role as an afrobeats pioneer, transforming the lab into a portal of tropical trance.
