Step into the ethereal world of Cigarettes After Sex with this captivating private session, recorded for ARTE Concert on November 6, 2019, at Magasins Généraux in Pantin, France. This intimate performance arrived shortly after the release of their highly anticipated second album, 'Cry,' in late October 2019, and perfectly encapsulates the nocturnal, sensual, and profoundly cinematic universe the band is renowned for. Led by Greg Gonzales, Cigarettes After Sex has carved out a unique niche in dream pop, characterized by its minimalist orchestration and the potent emotional resonance of its intoxicating ballads. The band's name itself – evoking sensuality, intimacy, and melancholy – is a perfect mirror to their sound. This session, presented with evocative black and white imagery, deepens that connection, inviting listeners into a chiaroscuro ambiance that fans of acts like Beach House will find familiar and comforting. The setlist delves into tracks from 'Cry' alongside beloved earlier works, showcasing their signature blend of hushed vocals, shimmering guitars, and slow-burning rhythms. It's a masterclass in creating a mood, a sonic journey that feels both deeply personal and universally resonant, making this ARTE Concert recording an essential watch for anyone seeking to lose themselves in their unique sonic landscape.
