Atlanta's Curtis Harding delivers a potent and soulful performance in this special session, recorded exclusively for KEXP at Home. Captured at Palomino Sound in Los Angeles, the set finds Harding and his stellar six-piece band in top form, weaving through a dynamic five-song set that perfectly encapsulates his signature 'slop 'n' soul' sound—a gritty, vibrant fusion of vintage soul, garage rock, and R&B.
The performance, produced by Good Trouble Films, showcases material that would later appear on his acclaimed 2021 album, 'If Words Were Flowers.' The set opens with the optimistic, horn-laden anthem 'Hopeful' and moves seamlessly through tracks like the groovy 'Can't Hide It' and the heartfelt 'With You.' Backed by a tight rhythm section, keys, saxophone, and trumpet, Harding's powerful vocals are the undeniable centerpiece, conveying both raw emotion and smooth confidence. This KEXP session is a fantastic document of an artist at the peak of his powers, offering a polished yet deeply authentic live experience that highlights both his songwriting prowess and the incredible chemistry of his band.
