Culminating the California Roots 2022 festival—dedicated to reggae and arts in Monterey—Damian Marley, Bob Marley's youngest son and four-time Grammy winner for albums like Stony Hill, closed the event with a 90-minute set fusing dancehall and hip-hop. Opening with "Nail Pon Cross" and "Make It Bun Dem," he segued into "Welcome to Jamrock" and "Medication," eliciting massive crowd response, while covers of his father's "Could You Be Loved" and "War/No More Trouble" infused nostalgic depth, highlighting Jamaican legacy continuity. Attendees and critics hailed his charisma and vigor as the festival's pinnacle, despite a three-year pandemic hiatus, affirming Marley's stature in contemporary reggae.
