In January 2023, aboard the National Geographic Explorer Antarctic cruise, American DJ and producer Diplo (Thomas Wesley Pentz)—founder of Mad Decent label and co-creator of Major Lazer with global house phenomena like "Lean On" (2015)—became the first artist to perform on the southern continent, a unique event for a 100-passenger expedition group amid the icebergs. His 60-minute DJ set, brimming with throbbing beats and tropical melodies, contrasted the Arctic landscape, where electronic drops echoed off icebergs to forge a surreal euphoria. Captured for a documentary project, this performance highlighted Diplo's eccentricity as a performer, transforming extreme isolation into festival trance.
