In September 2016, at an early juncture in her career before the release of her self-titled debut album, though singles like "New Love" were gaining traction, British singer Dua Lipa took the stage as part of the NDR 2-hosted Soundcheck Neue Musik festival at Göttingen's historic Deutsches Theater. The concise eight-track set—from the upbeat "Blow Your Mind (Mwah)" and introspective "Want To" to a cover of Jamie xx's "I Know There's Gonna Be (Good Times)"—highlighted her vocal versatility and charisma, blending pop with R&B elements, and was live-streamed, eliciting favorable responses for her fresh stage presence. This performance, marked by the young artist's enthusiasm, foreshadowed her worldwide breakthrough, though observers later remarked on the maturation of her arrangements.
