Ed Sheeran made a highly anticipated return to the NPR Music Tiny Desk, this time gracing the iconic Washington D.C. studio in person after his much-lauded 2021 Tiny Desk (home) concert. That earlier virtual performance garnered nearly 15 million views, setting the stage for an intimate, in-studio experience that fans eagerly awaited. Stepping behind the real Desk, Sheeran delivered a captivating set that perfectly honored the series' spirit of raw, unadorned musicality. Known for his incredible ability to create a full-band sound as a solo artist, Sheeran showcased his signature live looping technique. With just a guitar, keyboard, and his trusty looping station, he meticulously built instrumental layers in real-time, transforming simple melodies into rich, complex arrangements. The performance featured a blend of brand new songs, offering a glimpse into his latest work, alongside a beloved old favorite, "Photograph." This intimate setting allowed Sheeran's exceptional songwriting and multi-instrumental prowess to shine, providing a unique opportunity to witness his creative process up close. It's a testament to his artistry that he can command such a presence and deliver such a full, engaging sound in the stripped-down environment of the Tiny Desk.
