Fat Freddy's Drop — Live Concert at Paléo Festival, Nyon, Switzerland, 2014

In July 2014, amid the afterglow of Based on a True Story (2010), New Zealand's reggae powerhouse Fat Freddy's Drop from Wellington—where jam sessions fusing soul-funk and dub became their hallmark post-breakthrough with "Sweet Loving Man"—tore up the main stage at Paléo Festival, Switzerland's giant launched in 1976 in Nyon as Montreux's eclectic counterpoint emphasizing rock to reggae before a 40,000-strong crowd on Lake Geneva's shore. The 90-minute outpouring, brimming with Cedric Mason's improvisational horns and bass lines, spun the festival into a tropical whirlwind, where island grooves merged with European rapture under alpine skies, spawning a spontaneous jam that echoed into the night.
