In July 2018, Swedish electronic artist Fever Ray (Karin Dreijer Andersson)—whose album Plunge (2017), with industrial textures and provocative identity themes, became a manifesto of her post-The Knife phase—headlined the Main Stage at Exit Festival, Serbia's giant born in 2000 as a student protest in Novi Sad and now UNESCO heritage drawing 250,000 to Petrovaradin Fortress. Her 70-minute performance, brimming with throbbing beats, smoke, and theatrical lighting where costumes and masks amplified a ritual feel, transmuted the medieval fortress into a realm of collective catharsis under Balkan skies. As a rare artifact of her solo breakthrough, this show underscored Fever Ray's convention-breaking role, infusing techno with shamanic scale.
