In June 2020, as the pandemic canceled all festivals, German indie-rock band Giant Rooks—from Hamm and riding the wave of their debut album Rookery (2020), marking their breakthrough with psychedelic textures and lyrics on everyday alienation—delivered an exclusive online set for SOS Mediterranean Session, a charity stream supporting Sea-Watch's refugee rescue efforts in the Mediterranean. Their 40-minute performance, filmed on a Berlin rooftop overlooking the city, embodied the pandemic year's climax, where Fred Ritter's garage riffs merged with synthesizer improvisations to evoke warm resonance among thousands via stream. As part of their virtual tour, this show highlighted Giant Rooks' role as socially conscious artists, turning the rooftop into a realm of collective trance.
