Giolì & Assia — Live Handpan Performance at #DiesisLive, Fagradalsfjall Volcano, Iceland, 2022

In April 2022, Italian electronic duo Giolì & Assia—whose early EP Giolì & Assia (2018) marked their breakthrough in the house scene with a fusion of electronics, indie, and Assia's vocal loops—performed a handpan set for #DiesisLive, Diesis Music's series of intimate concerts launched in 2018 as a platform for live sessions in exotic locales, where Episode 09 formed part of the performance at Fagradalsfjall Volcano on Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula, where the 2021 eruption created lava fields and smoking craters drawing thousands of visitors. The 30-minute set, filmed by directors Graziano Piazza and Marco Drillo with drone footage over the lava, embodied their summer tour climax, where Giolì's finger techniques on the handpan wove a meditative flow blending the premiere of "Fire Hell and Holy Water" to evoke hypnotic catharsis for a small audience. As a rare artifact of their shift from club roots to immersive acts, this show transmuted the Icelandic volcano into a portal of emotional trance.
