In July 2018, virtual band Gorillaz—created by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, whose album The Now Now (2018), released two weeks prior, marked a return to minimalist indie-pop after collaborative Humanz—headlined Roskilde Festival, Europe's largest non-profit festival launched in 1971 in Roskilde, Denmark, as a platform for alternative music with a social mission among 130,000 at Roskilde Dyrskueplads. Their 90-minute Orange Stage set, captured in high quality, embodied their European tour climax, where throbbing beats merged with guest vocals to spark euphoria under Danish sun. Part of a lineup with Eminem and Nine Inch Nails, this performance highlighted Gorillaz's innovator role, turning the festival grounds into a portal of collective trance.
