In June 2018, Jamaican reggae artist Jesse Royal—known for his conscious reggae with social lyrics on love, unity, and inequality on Lily of da Valley (2017)—performed for Rockpalast, WDR's legendary series launched in 1974 as a platform for live reggae, rock, and indie broadcasts. His hour-long set at Gebäude 9 in Cologne, captured professionally, embodied his European tour climax, where reggae rhythms merged with emotive vocals and positive messages to evoke warm resonance among a small audience. Featuring tracks like "Always Be Around", "Life Is Sweet", and "Modern Day Judas", this show highlighted his role as a modern roots reggae voice, turning the studio into a realm of collective unity.
