In August 2024, Australian psychedelic rock band King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard—led by Stu Mackenzie and at the peak of their tour supporting albums like Flight b741 (2024)—opened their New York residency with the first night at Forest Hills Stadium, a historic open-air venue in Queens with Manhattan skyline views. The August 16 show before 14,000 became a true marathon: the band at full strength showcased material from recent releases with their signature mix of garage rock, psychedelia, and kraut motors. Captured professionally as part of the official bootleg Live in New York City '24, the performance caught them in hypnotic form: Amby Kenny-Smith and Cook Craig's guitar riffs backed Michael Cavanagh's drums, while Mackenzie's vocals added mad charm. The residency opener—a standout tour moment—proved their mastery of live chaos and invention.
