Capturing the synth-heavy magic of their 'Junk' tour, this M83 performance from 2016 showcases the French electronic project in its element: a massive European festival stage. On July 9th, Anthony Gonzalez and his band took the NOS Stage in Lisbon, Portugal, as part of the celebrated NOS Alive festival, which that year also featured acts like Arcade Fire and Radiohead. The set was a journey through their signature blend of dream pop, shoegaze, and euphoric electronic anthems, all amplified by a mesmerizing light show.
M83 has long been praised for creating cinematic soundscapes, and this concert was no exception. The performance drew from their then-new album 'Junk,' which explored a more playful, 80s-inspired synth-funk sound, while still delivering the epic, emotionally charged moments fans cherish from albums like 'Hurry Up, We're Dreaming.' Tracks like the global hit "Midnight City" undoubtedly sent waves of energy through the massive crowd, while deeper cuts and grand, sweeping instrumentals provided a powerful, immersive experience under the Lisbon night sky. This recording perfectly encapsulates the grand scale and emotional depth that make an M83 live show an unforgettable event.
