In June 2003, British trip-hop pioneers Massive Attack—whose albums like Mezzanine (1998) defined the genre with dark atmospheres and a fusion of electronics, hip-hop, and dub—performed at Pinkpop, Europe’s oldest annual festival in Landgraaf, Netherlands. Their hour-long set, rich with hypnotic beats and vocal textures from Robert Del Naja (3D) and Grant Marshall (Daddy G), blended deep basslines with visual effects, crafting a mesmerizing ambiance. The performance stood out for its emotional depth and rare trip-hop presence on a rock-heavy festival lineup, reinforcing the band’s status as genre trailblazers uniting audiences through their distinctive sound.
