Nattali Rize, an Australian-Jamaican reggae artist who began her career in 2011, is known for synthesizing roots-reggae with elements of soul and world music, emphasizing socially conscious lyricism. Her performance on May 29, 2022, at the California Roots Music and Arts Festival in Monterey, California, was part of a tour promoting new material. The sonic palette relied on deep basslines, rhythmic guitar chords, and expressive vocal passages, forming a layered sonic landscape. Rize’s voice, ranging from melodic warmth to vibrant accents, interacted with the instrumental cohesion of her band, enhancing the open acoustics of the festival stage and immersing listeners in an emotionally rich musical experience.
