In the famously intimate setting of NPR's office in Washington, D.C., pop superstar Nelly Furtado delivered a vibrant performance that served as a journey through her celebrated career. Stripped of stadium production, this Tiny Desk Concert showcases the Canadian artist's vocal versatility and enduring charisma, backed by a hand-picked eight-piece band of veteran collaborators. The performance felt like a victory lap, organically recreating her distinct sound with live instrumentation that included everything from violin to a DJ scratching records.
The extensive setlist was a testament to her quarter-century in music, weaving together massive global hits like “I'm Like a Bird,” “Promiscuous,” and “Maneater” into dynamic medleys. Furtado also included fan favorites and even a cover of Missy Elliott's “Get Ur Freak On,” demonstrating the breadth of her influences and musical dexterity. Bridging the past and present, she performed her then-new single “Love Bites,” signaling a new chapter in her creative evolution. This concert captures a seasoned artist joyfully revisiting her legacy while continuing to push her sound forward.
