There's a special kind of energy in the air when a band plays a hometown show, and this performance from Pinegrove is a perfect testament to that feeling. Recorded on October 20, 2021, at the historic Wellmont Theater, this concert captures the Montclair, New Jersey natives delivering a powerful and heartfelt set in a venue they grew up dreaming of playing. The show was so significant that it was later released as the concert film and live album, "Montclair: Pinegrove Live at the Wellmont Theater."
Formed in Montclair in 2010, Pinegrove has built a devoted following with their unique blend of indie rock, emo, and alt-country. Their music is known for its literary, emotionally direct lyrics and a sound that is both intimate and expansive, often augmented by banjo and pedal steel guitar. This performance showcases the band at their best, translating their studio recordings into a dynamic and communal live experience. The setlist spans their celebrated catalog, creating a cathartic atmosphere as the crowd's energy merges with the band's passionate delivery.
This recording is more than just a concert; it's a document of a band coming full circle. The clarity of the sound mix and the professional cinematography highlight the tight musicianship and the raw, open-hearted connection Pinegrove shares with its audience.
