Royal Blood, the British duo, has been proving since 2013 that a bass and drums can sound like a full-on orchestra in blues-rock and garage rock. Their set on July 9, 2023, at TRNSMT Festival in Glasgow, Scotland, was all about that raw power. Mike Kerr sang with such grit and fire, his voice swinging from fierce to melodic, like the engine of the show. His bass riffs, run through pedals, hit like a guitar storm, and Ben Thatcher’s drums pounded like a pulse. The open stage’s acoustics made the sound massive, and the lights, shifting from red to white, played up the mood swings. The crowd, screaming and rocking, felt like they were caught in this rock whirlwind.
