In October 2020, with the US presidential election just weeks away, Run The Jewels delivered a vital and explosive broadcast performance in partnership with Adult Swim. Dubbed "Holy Calamavote," the commercial-free special was a powerful initiative to encourage voter registration and action. For the first time ever, Killer Mike and El-P performed their critically acclaimed album, RTJ4, in its entirety.
Staged in a raw, industrial space without a live audience, the performance channeled the duo's revolutionary energy directly to viewers at home. The event was more than just a concert; it was a televised call to arms, hosted by comedian Eric Andre and featuring virtual appearances from a stunning lineup of guests, including Zack de la Rocha, Mavis Staples, Josh Homme, and Pharrell Williams. This unique format amplified the urgency and political weight of RTJ4, an album that had already been hailed as one of the most important releases of the year.
The performance captured the raw power that defines Run The Jewels. Killer Mike's commanding presence and El-P's relentless, intricate flow were on full display, turning the livestream into a cultural moment. It was a testament to their status as one of modern hip-hop's most essential voices, using their platform not just to entertain, but to mobilize and inspire.
