The raw, unfiltered energy of hip-hop super-duo Run The Jewels is captured in its purest form in this electrifying session at KEXP's Seattle studio. Recorded in July 2017, the performance finds El-P and Killer Mike fresh off the release of their critically acclaimed third album, *Run the Jewels 3*, and their power is palpable. Stripped of the massive festival crowds they command, the duo's chemistry and lyrical ferocity are front and center, offering an intimate yet explosive look at one of modern hip-hop's most vital acts.
The setlist is a potent four-track distillation of *RTJ3*'s thematic weight and sonic innovation. They kick off with the bombastic 'Legend Has It,' a track dripping with confidence, before diving into the politically charged, anti-authoritarian anthem 'Don't Get Captured.' The performance continues with the poignant and powerful 'Early' and concludes with the introspective 'Down.' Throughout the session, El-P’s intricate, hard-hitting beats provide the perfect canvas for both his and Killer Mike's razor-sharp verses. This KEXP performance is a testament to their status as not just incredible recording artists, but as a formidable live force, delivering their message with passion, precision, and an undeniable sense of camaraderie.
