The Black Keys, an Ohio duo formed by Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney in 2001, remain a pivotal force in the blues-rock revival by 2024, blending garage aesthetics with soul-infused motifs. Their 2024 performance at the KROQ Helpful Honda Sound Space in Los Angeles, recorded to promote their new album, showcases their evolution toward a polished yet raw sound. The music, delivered by the duo, is a fusion of melodic guitar riffs and pulsing rhythms, with Auerbach’s gritty vocals and Carney’s dynamic drumming crafting a layered sonic landscape tailored to the intimate studio acoustics. The concert reinforced the band’s reputation as genre leaders, eliciting enthusiastic listener response and affirming KROQ’s role as a platform for cutting-edge rock performances.
